November 20th at the Farm, in the Caves, and Saying Goodbye

 We stayed in a place in Hana known as Josie's Hideaway. She has a huge farm in Maui that we toured and enjoyed some fruit in.

 Banana trees and Kiwi trees. There were also several fruits I have never heard of. Some of them were great and others not so much!

 After the farm we went to the Waianapanapa Caves and jumped in. It was fresh water, but very cold. 

 We walked down to the black sand beach which was a beautiful beach to end the trip on.

 There were caves at the black sand beach that we explored as well.

 As we headed back to the airport we did a stop at the lower falls on the Pipiwai Trail. It was a short and beautiful walk.

 Mandy gave Dave a Lei as we headed out so that he could claim he got "leid" in Hawaii.

 Ilene was a great new friend I made on this trip, I was carrying paper towel around in the car the whole trip, but some how it made it all the way to the airport. Hopefully someone in the Maui Airport used it (that is where I left it).

 We played cards a lot on the trip and it was a great distraction on and off the plane!

 We ended the banana war with a picture of a banana peel on Ilene's phone, way too funny!

This is most of our group, so glad I went on this trip. Huge thanks to Mandy for recommending it, to Sheryl for her work, and to all the many new friends I have made!

November 19th at the Beach, Beach, Beach and on the Pipiwai Trail

 On November 19th the group started at Hana Bay, Kelly Beck as always was a tease!

 Bill and Kelly found a palm tree growing out of a coconut, 

 then we headed on the road to Hana for a hike up the Pipiwai Trail, known by many as the seven pools although that is not its actual name.

 Bob was a guy in our group that said, "If you are not living on the edge you are taking up too much space." When we saw this sign on the hike we had to take his picture by it.

 The bamboo on the trail was so thick that it looked like night time at 11:00am. Very cool experience!

 At the end of the trail was the Waimoku Falls. Pictures do not do justice to the majestic nature of these falls.

 I learned how to do panoramic shots on the trail from a guy named Drik. This was a huge banyan tree on the trail.

 After the hike we enjoyed lunch and continued a banana peel war with one of the other cars in our group. Kelly and Ilene Beck were great fun!

 We enjoyed a great afternoon at the Koki Beach.

 Three guys in our group got stuck in the ocean tides and these two local surfers fished them out. One of the guys, Bill. had a heart attack while out in the ocean. Bill's wife's native language is Spanish and the surfer that rescued Bill was from Argentina. It was a blessing that they were able to talk to each other in Spanish.

 911 was called and he was taken to the hospital. He was taken care of and came home ok. As a funny side note, I had stopped at the fire station with a friend in our group to see about switching badges. I asked this fireman what they deal with most and he said rescue at the beach, hours later he was helping with the rescue in our group, crazy!

 We went to a more secluded beach with red sand that was beautiful!

 In the evening Brooke did a henna turtle on my arm, this was an amazing day of adventure and blessings!

November 18th on the Road to Hana

 On the 18th we left the beautiful shores of Napili Point with Randy, Anne, David, Mandy and I.

 On the way out Randy got a smoothie that Kelly in his practical joke way shared.

 We started on the road to Hana, which is very narrow with lots of turns. Out first stop was a hike to twin falls.

 At the falls Mandy and I jumped in and went under the waterfall. It was cold, but felt great!

 There was a lot of bamboo on the road to Hana and we loved hiking through it.

As we entered Hana we got set up in our houses  known as Josie's Hana Hideaway. I thought this little sign was funny and totally appropriate to the primitive nature of the location.

We played a lot of cards on this trip and this day was no exception, the carport was the perfect location to enjoy the weather and some new amazing friends!
