Sarah and I took a trip to New York City for Memorial Day. Her old roommate and good friend Kelsey Harris is living there and was so kind have us come stay and be our tour guide. It was a whirlwind trip. Above is a picture of my first cab ride from the air port on May 25, 2012.
We had chicken and waffles the first night at Kelsey's apartment and then went to an amazing ballet at the Lincoln Center.
The LDS Temple in Manhattan is literally right downtown across from the Lincoln Center. It is so crazy to see such a place of peace in such a crazy city.
These pictures were all the performers who has performed in in the Lincoln Center Theater we went to, just a few people. After the ballet we went to Magnolia's Bakery for awesome dessert. I liked the Banana Bread Pudding.
On May 26th we started with brunch at Hundred Acres. The food in New York is amazing and this place did not disappoint. New Jersey Andrew was our waiter and we had a lot of fun with him. He even signed postcards we sent to friends.
We went to Ground Zero and St. Paul's Church which was right across the street. It amazed me how many buildings stayed standing in such destruction.
St. Paul's was right next to the towers, as pictured below, and yet there was no damage there aside from dust and ash. God truly provides havens of peace in the most devastating situations.
We followed Ground Zero with a trip to Trinity Church and the Stock Exchange. It is crazy how close things are together in this city.
We took the Stanton Island Ferry out to see the city skyline and the Statute of Liberty. It was the perfect way to do it and I loved it!
We had to get off the ferry in Stanton Island and try to get on the one heading back to the city. We barely missed the ferry and Kelsey was not happy.
When we got back to the city we stopped at the National Museum of the American Indian and "the Bull".
We walked the Brooklyn Bridge and then had amazing Mac and Cheese at S'Macs, no yellow death here!
We went to Time Square and Rockefeller Plaza, then back to the temple to go inside.
On May 27th we visited the churches of Harlem. Above is the LDS Church that we attended.
This is the oldest church in Harlem, 260 years old, we attend part of a Baptist choir inside.
The churches and buildings around Harlem were amazing!
After church were went for a bike ride and picnic in Central Park. It amazed me how the park is such a sanctuary in such a busy city!
We biked the whole park and visited Shakespeare's garden, famous movie sites such as Enchanted, the reflecting pool, Belvedere Castle and so much more!
In the evening we went to High-line park. A park built over old elevated train tracks. It was fun and had great views including the Empire State Building.
On May 28th we had lunch at a place called Humus. The mint lemonade was amazing!
It was Memorial Day so we went down to the Intrepid and saw several military officers. We took some pictures with Kelsey and the men! The line to tour the Intrepid was at least an hour so we just took a look outside and it is huge!
We took pictures with the NYPD and I thought these cops fit the NYPD profile so well.
We did lots of walking and every street looked so different, in the Afternoon we went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It was huge, we spent a few hours and only scratched the surface!
We went to Grand Central Station and of course I had to go see the New York Public Library!
In the evening we went to dinner and our waiter was from Brooklyn. I only understood about every 5th word he said. We went to Newsies as a final event and it was AMAZING! Sarah gave me the ticket as a birthday gift and I loved it!
This was a whirlwind trip with two amazing women and the perfect first trip to New York! Love you girls!!!!!
