What an inspiring example my Aunt Trea has been to me my whole life. I hope to be able to say that I have lived a life as awesome as she has when I die! Quite an amazing Lady!
PETREA ANN GILLESPIE KELLY
FEBRUARY 25, 1942 - JULY 3, 2015
Petrea Ann Gillespie Kelly, February 25, 1942 – July 3, 2015.
While surrounded by her husband and children, Petrea Kelly passed away peacefully at her home in Highland, UT from lung cancer.
Petrea was born February 25, 1942 in Provo to Bob and Wilma Gillespie. She was the oldest of eight children and helped care for her brothers and sister from an early age. She graduated from Orem High School in 1960 and from BYU in 1966. She also served in the North British Mission. In 1966, she married Brian K. Kelly in the SLC Temple.
Our mom and grandma was a hard-working and talented woman whose grace and generosity influenced family and friends. She was a voracious reader and never passed up an opportunity to learn. A gifted writer and story teller she meticulously researched her Gillespie and Wiscombe family histories, which she compiled into several volumes as gifts to her family. She also published articles and authored a history of the LDS Church.
Petrea loved cooking, sewing and gardening and spent much of her time teaching her children and grandchildren the joys of planting, baking, reading and learning. She was thoughtful, kind and always put the needs of others above her own.
She was deeply spiritual and studied, taught and lived the teachings of Jesus Christ. Petrea joyfully served in many church callings: with her husband as a Mission President in Albuquerque, NM, as Stake Relief Society President, as Primary President, serving on the committee to develop the manual Teaching, No Greater Call, and her favorite calling Visiting Teacher.
Petrea is survived by her husband, Brian K. Kelly; her ten children and their spouses; Megan (James) McQuivey, Sean Kelly, Heather (David) Taylor, Bronson (Cherie’) Kelly, Dylan (Laura) Kelly, Erin (Josh) Stanley, Brigham (Emma) Kelly, Rebecca (Geoff) Morgan, BJ (Analia) Kelly, Elizabeth (Matthew) Allen; 29 grandchildren; six brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 9, 2015 at 11:00 am in the Highland Utah Central Stake Center 5850 W. 10400 N., Highland. Family and friends may call Wednesday evening 6-8 pm at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 S. 300 E., Pleasant Grove and at the church on Thursday one hour prior to services. Internment will be at the Provo City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.olpinmortuary.com.
